We are: Protect Every Vote
2nd round polling results (as of this instant) to the question:
Would you accept the name "Protect Every Vote"?
11 of 14 votes are in, and there are ALL "Yes"
Per the quorum and 75% threshold I announced in the members only email a week ago, we needed a quorum of 12, and 75% "Yes" of the votes cast.
But, but, but ... only 11 people have voted. Haven't you not (yet) reached a quorum?
Technically, no, we don't yet have a quorum. However, I still think we have a definitive result. Why?
First, assume all three non-voters instead HAD voted and they all voted "NO"
Quorum 12 - Achieved
75% of 14 is 10.5 - and we have 11 "Yes" votes. So we would adopt the name.
Now go back to the email. Remember that I reserved the right to lower the threshold if people indicated they were no longer interested? Well, either all 3 non-voters are either no longer interested, or for some reason were unable to vote. If even one of the non-voters indicated that s/he was no longer interested, than I would have lowered the quorum to 11 and we have 11 votes. And even if all were unable, by assuming a "No" vote (which, given the unanimity of those who DID vote, I consider unlikely) we DO reach the thresholds. Finally, if even 1 of those 3 voted "Yes" then we would have both a quorum and the requisite 75% "Yes".
Thus I am confident that we have reached an acceptable name. Perhaps not the best name, but certainly a good one.
So where do we go from here? As soon as I "Send" both a tweet to the world, and an email to the members announcing the result and linking to THIS post, I'll obtain the domain names: protecteveryvote.com, protecteveryvote.org and protecteveryvote.net. That will be it for today, but tomorrow, while my car is in the shop, I'll be busy setting up the Google Apps for Business domain so that we can all roll up our sleeves and start the REAL work!
It's been a longer process than I think any of us anticipated, but I feel good about it.
Thanks,
Steve Dorst
